FRESH LEMONADE AND MAKATON GIVE A NEW BOOST TO STUDENTS AT BLACKFRIARS FE.
Most people know that fresh lemonade is delicious and it is a good source of vitamin C that helps to fight against colds, especially during winter.
On the other hand, few people know how easy it is to make fresh lemonade from scratch, and that you can even use a Makaton language recipe card.
Group 15.1 from Blackfriars FE Academy has created a fellowship called “Friends of Makaton”. All of them are following the OCR unit Community Action with great enthusiasm. The students have selected to focus within our own school community. They have worked with group 13.4 - who are really good at Makaton - and they thought that it would be a good idea to learn and spread more Makaton signs around the Food Technology room and the Community Café. To launch this new initiative, group 15.1 decided to invite group 13.4 to teach them how to make fresh lemonade using a recipe in Makaton. (Thanks to Steve Catchick, tutor of our guests, who supported with all necessary information we needed for our project).
Everybody loved the experience (and the lemonade of course). We intend to make this recipe the first recipe for a future cooking book in Makaton language to be shared within all schools in our Multi Academy Trust.
Please have a go at this healthy and delicious drink and visit our community café, always open on the first Wednesday of each month.
