Welcome to Blackfriars Academy, a very special place to be educated where every student is valued as an individual. As a staff we work in partnership with parents and carers, taking our responsibility very seriously to provide a personalised education that breaks down barriers to learning and equipping students for the next stage in their lives.

Dear Parents and Carers

September 2018

Although the new school year has only just begun, I know that many of you will already be considering schools for your children for September 2019 or 2020 when they will transfer to secondary school.  This is a very big decision for you, especially if you are beginning to think that a special school may be an appropriate choice for your child.

We would, therefore, like to extend an invitation to any parents/carers who are going through the difficult adjustment of re-thinking their child’s educational future from mainstream to special.  Some parents/carers describe it as a “grieving process”.

On Thursday 27 September at 10.00am we have arranged for Dove, a support and counselling service, to co-host a meeting with us to discuss both the emotional and practical considerations of making this transition.  It will be a very informal chat with coffee and cake where parents/carers can share their experiences and have questions answered.

There is absolutely no obligation on parents/carers to choose Blackfriars as their school of choice.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school and would ask that you complete the form below and return it to Mrs T Davies, Blackfriars Academy, Priory Road, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs ST5 2TF or email tinadavies@blackfriars.shaw-education.org.uk

Yours sincerely

Alison Parr
